Exploring a map of Copenhagen, I immediately fell in love with the pattern of green space and waterways, in particular the lacey, curving arc of the Stadsgraven canal. What inspired Copenhageners to carve their city so extravagantly?
This map is a slice of the Indre By district (Inner City or Copenhagen Center), featuring Christianshavn and what remains of the 17th century bastions and moat built by King Christian IV as a fortified ring around the city.
These days, Copenhageners are remaking their city in order, by 2025, to be the world’s first carbon-neutral capital city.
