The curving shape of the coast and the river seem to reflect one another, calling to mind a cresting wave or a sweeping letter S. Typically, maps of the area encompass the full concave arc of the Monterey Bay from Santa Cruz to Pacific Grove. This map, with its focus on the primary water features of Santa Cruz, is a bit more personal to my life here: the places I like to walk, the view out my windows.
In the map, the Monterey Bay hugs the coast of Santa Cruz from Lighthouse Field down past the Wharf and Beach Boardwalk across the San Lorenzo River and into the Seabright neighborhood. As the orientation of the map is rotated, north is roughly to the right.
